Considering the rapid evolution of digital technologies and markets, the geopolitical context, the intensifying global technological race and the importance of the digital and sustainable transformation of industry and society, the EU (DG CNECT) has launched a study to enhance the understanding on the development of strategic digital technologies for Europe.
The scope of the study covers technologies with high potential for bolstering competitiveness, beyond those identified in the Recommendation on critical technology areas for the EU’s economic security. As a starting point at the study’s inception, this includes for instance:
- Advanced semiconductors and photonics technologies
- Advanced computing & quantum technologies
- AI, data & robotics technologies
- Cloud-edge-IoT, advanced digital security and interoperability
- Advanced connectivity, next generation internet and extended reality
- Emerging technologies and other enabling technologies
The study aims to provide insights to strengthen Europe’s positioning both in the critical and enabling technologies currently under development, as well as emerging digital technologies, including the uptake of deep-tech into new application sectors.
The EU invited academics, researchers, and innovators, industry players, public officers and civil society organisations to contribute through structured consultations to refine technology priorities and investment strategies. EURIDICE SME’s and academics were invited to contribute to this consultation. For EURIDICE it is an opportunity to expand our ecosystem.
