A two-day lecture series

Currently, in the digitally connected world, the importance of safeguarding information systems cannot be overstated. In two lectures a comprehensive view on the principles and practices essential for protecting information systems will be offered. Designed for both aspiring cybersecurity professionals and seasoned IT practitioners, these lectures cover the foundational concepts and advanced strategies necessary to understand and mitigate cyber threats.

Participants will be immersed into the overview of what cybersecurity means, including key terms and definitions that make the background of the field. Then the lectures proceed with the core security principles and various controls that organizations can implement to enhance their security system. A critical component of the lecture is the examination of relevant laws and regulations that cover cybersecurity.

Participants also will explore common vulnerabilities within information systems and learn best practices of vulnerability management and mitigation.

By the end of this lectures, students will have a solid understanding of the basic cybersecurity’s theoretical and practical aspects, get the skills needed to protect information assets.

The topic consists of two lectures. The first lecture includes:

  • What is cybersecurity? Some terms and definitions.
  • Security principles, controls and strategies.
  • Laws and regulations in cybersecurity and information security
  • Risk management.
  • Information security threats.
  • Vulnerabilities.

The second lecture is on 28 June 2024 at 5:30 Kiev time and includes:

  • Why systems are still vulnerable?
  • What is the penetration testing?
  • The penetration testing lifecycle or basic attacks steps
  • Attack tools.
  • Defence mechanisms against attacks.
  • Cases of well-known attacks.
