From 19-23 October, a research visit with lectures and a workshop will take place at the premises of EURIDICE’s associate partner UNIMAS. Theme of the visit is to discuss the Digital Transition, AI ethics and Society and Anthropocene to the Symbiocene of People and Planet. The growing world-wide impact of AI on People and Planet is becoming more evident every day. This may have positive but also negative repercussions on many aspects of society. Peoples and communities in countries of the Global South, especially those in least developed regions of the world are vulnerable to the effects of a changing climate. Some experts claim that the capabilities of (upcoming super-intelligent) AI in finding (technological) solutions to all problems, but less techno-optimitics scenarios are also possible. The carbon and water footprints of newly built mega-datacenters, especially in areas vulnerabe for land degradation may represent a new threat to local communities. It is therefore were important to discuss and investigate the possible scenarios of the near future. That is one of the tasks this EURIDICE workshop aims at. The workshop is titled Anthropocene to the Symbiocene of People and Planet and is initiated by Dr. Sjoerd Kluiving, associate professor Anthropocene.
