The Rocky Horror Medical Show: Bringing Culture, Creativity and Communication

Over the course of a year, master’s students from Leiden University, the Netherlands, have dedicated their creativity, energy and talent to an ambitious cultural production: The Rocky Horror Medical Show. Under the artistic direction and guidance of Leeuw van Moerkerken (Leeuw Film), the students have worked intensively to bring together live music, choreography and theatre in a unique performance.

Inspired by Richard O’Brien’s iconic 1970s musical The Rocky Horror Show, the production has been translated, adapted and rewritten in Dutch by Leeuw van Moerkerken as a theatrical parody specifically tailored to the students.

This initiative is part of the extracurricular cultural activities supported by the EURIDICE project, which explores innovative approaches to education at the intersection of digital society, culture and communication. Through collaborative artistic production, students gain hands-on experience in creative expression, storytelling, teamwork and communicating ideas to diverse audiences.

The experiences and insights gained from this production will also contribute to the development of the upcoming Culture & Media Internship within the DIGISOC Joint Master’s Programme. In this internship, Leeuw Film, together with other professionals from the cultural and audiovisual sectors, will guide students in exploring innovative approaches to science communication through Reflective Narratives of the Digital Society.

By connecting artistic practice with academic learning, EURIDICE aims to demonstrate how culture, creativity and communication can empower students to critically reflect on, engage with and actively shape our rapidly evolving digital society.
