Pope Leo XIV recently made several important statements on AI, digital technologies and the future of information and communication. Pope Leo is calling for a “new humanism in the digital era”, according to reports in the Corriere della Sera and the Vatican News, 6-8 November 2025.
This “Digital Humanism” stresses the relationship between ethics and artificial intelligence and communication at the service of people; “the sensible future of AI lies in rules and limits”. “We must prevent the overload of information and the void of wisdom from giving rise to new forms of dehumanisation and manipulation, which — under the guise of care and truth — peddle exploitation and lies.”
Pope Leo calls on “scientists, entrepreneurs, and pastoral leaders engaged in the development and employment of artificial intelligence to ensure that emerging technologies remain rooted in respect for human dignity and the common good.
Pope Leo further points out that first and foremost there is an educational challenge here. “Education, in fact, is what makes the equal dignity of all human beings active and transformative, promoting effective local and global citizenship in the spirit of participation, solidarity and freedom. For this reason, education in how to inhabit digital environments and how to engage critically with artificial intelligence is essential and should not be separated from the integral development of individuals and communities.”
One cannot but observe a striking resonance with the EURIDICE educational philosophy underlying its various courses and programmes, such as the DIGISOC master.
