Berlin, 14 and 15 March 2024 – a delegation of the EURIDICE dissemination team came together at Haus der Kulturen de Welt (HKW) in Berlin.
HKW is one of Germany’s lighthouses of culture. It is a great privilege for EURIDICE to have HKW as one of the cultural partners.
HKW will contribute to EURIDICE’s communication strategy. How can we convey EURIDICE’s key ideas to a wider public? How can we spread the word and reach a larger audience? How to unclench the public debate on societal issues in the realm of Digital Humanism, Digital Society, Inclusive Education and Global Citizenship, in an inspiring way.
We discussed, among other topics, the concept of Quilombismo, a project in research, community and arts, which aims to imagine new forms of cultural and political resistance through diverse emancipation projects, both in the past and the present. The word is derived from the quilombo, communities in Brazil’s colonial times, created by people who escaped from the chains of slavery, and built new societies of ‘fraternal and free reunion, or encounter; solidarity, living together, and existential communion’. Yet, how to possibly synchronize ideas, in the light of different backgrounds, approaches, histories and cultural contexts? How can we foster the richness of experiences of various background, making it into a presentable result?
Meanwhile, plans were made for media and co-creation events, involving students from various countries of the world, co-creative media art, the concept of video rabbit holes as a form of visual narratives, as a network of connected histories despite the changing protagonists, contexts and timeframes.
Present at the meeting: from HKW, Daniel Neugebauer and Sara Morais dos Santos Bruss. Three Dutch SME-project participants from EURIDICE were present: Leeuw Film (Leeuw van Moerkerken), Babafla (Andre Baart) and AKMC (Hans Akkermans). From Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, Anna Bon represented EURIDICE’s Chair. We also had the great pleasure of meeting the director of Haus der Kulturen der Welt, Professor Bonaventure Soh Bejeng Ndikung.
After the meetings, we EURIDICE visitors made a tour through the impressive building of HKW, and had the opportunity to visite the present exhibition: “Echoes from the Brotherlands, visions and illusions of anti-imperialist solidarity”. Brotherlands refer to formerly socialist countries of the Global South, e.g. Cuba, Moçambique, Vietman or Tanzania, partners of the GDR during the Cold War period.
EURIDICE’s focus on Global Citizenship, concretized through its 15 partner countries, in Europe, Africa and Asia, is clearly the binding concept that connects the idea of the Digital Society to HKW’s mission and vision as Germany’s national centre for arts and society in non-European cultures and societies.
