Digital transition discussed with Minister of Education in Sarawak

Kuching, 17 September 2024 – EURIDICE (partners UNIMAS, AKMC and VU) were invited by the Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development of Sarawak to discuss innovative education on Digital Society, in the light of the ongoing Digital Transformation. The EURIDICE project was presented to the Minister and his top-level staff and the European policies regarding digital technologies were discussed.

Sarawak, Malaysia, as one of the rapidly growing economies in Asia, is faced with a very high pace of digital transformation at this very moment. Artificial Intelligence is at the centre of the attention. An AI expertise centre is currently being established by the government of Sarawak. Collaboration with international partners is an important target on the agenda of this new endeavor. The presence in EURIDICE of two associated partners from Sarawak, (UNIMAS and I-Cats), was the trigger for the Minister to invite the European delegation. He was interested to learn more on the aims and objectives of EURIDICE in the face of Europe’s Digital Decade, and the urgent need to expand and intensify digital and STEM education, at all levels (primary, secondary, higher education, professional training). The Dean of the UNIMAS Faculty of Computer Science and Informatin Technology Prof. Dr. Jane Labadin was present at the meeting. The organizer of this event was Dr. Cheah Wai Shiang, senior lecturer from the Computer Science Faculty of UNIMAS, who is also the contact person for EURIDICE.
